Herpetology

The herpetology section comprises probably more than 150.000 inividuals of amphibians (frogs, salamanders, caecilians) and “reptiles” (lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises, crocodiles). At present, more new species of amphibians and reptiles are discovered and described than ever before.

Almost 16.000 extant species are currently known to science (6700 amphibians and 9100 reptiles).
