Virtual Collection

The pilot phase of a planned project (Dr. A.H. Segerer; Dr. A. Hausmann) focused on virtualisation of collection information has successfully been finished. In two master thesis papers informative CD-Rom’s on the butterflies and nepticulids of Bavaria have been produced. Target users: pupils, teachers, students, visitors of museums (e.g. the museum ‘Mensch und Natur’ in Munich). The project is actually carried on at high pace with digitization and web-presentation of many lepidopteran collection vouchers.

On the webpage of the Museum Witt, Munich (List of types resp. Sammlungen/Typenbilder), a comprehensive , illustrated documentation of the whole type material is hosted. Since 2011 a web-based illustration of the complete collection material including several millions of specimens was started, see http://www.insecta-web.org/MWM/ (Projekte/Virtuelle Sammlungen).
